Main Aims

  • To provide Ss the practice of describing people bu using functional language

Subsidiary Aims

  • To enable Ss to practise speaking and listening activities

Procedure

Initial Listening Task (2-3 minutes) • To enable Ss to listen for gist

Before playing the audio clip, write the qus on board and tell Ss to think the answers of these while listening. After they answer the qus, feedback.

Detailed Listening Task (3-4 minutes) • To enable Ss to listen for detail

The Ss listen to the clip again and match people. They have one minute to match people. Ss check their answers in pairs.

Matching exercise (6-7 minutes) • To provide Ss a matching exercise

Demonstrate the task for Ss and give them keywords. They try to find the correct picture and match. After they do the matching, they ask each other: "What does he look like?" They will not probably do it perfectly but at least, they will get an idea for the next exercise.

Focus on grammar (10-11 minutes) • To introduce Ss the correct grammar

Put scrambled words on board. Ss put them in correct order. A volunteer stands in front of the class and Ss use the sentences on board to describe the person.

Listening exercise (8-10 minutes) • To drill and enable Ss to understand grammar better

Play the audio clip and drill. Then elicit the grammar and explain the contraction of has. Ss stand up and describe each other in pairs and switch partners.

Correct the sentences (2-3 minutes) • To enable Ss to discover mistakes in sentences

Demonstrate the task and set time to 2 minutes. Ss look at exercise 2 and correct the sentences. They check the answers in pairs and after that with the answer key.

Guess who (7-8 minutes) • To enable Ss to ask questions and answer

Ss are seperated into two groups: bunnies and kitties. They stand up and ask other group questions like "How old is she?" The aim is to guess right before the other group.

Freer Speech (8-11 minutes) • To help Ss improve their speaking abilities

Set time for this task and demonstrate the task for the Ss. Ss turn to page 132 and 135, then work in pairs. After that they switch their partners and do the acitivity again.
