Main Aims

  • To introduce/review and give Ss practice in using adjectives in the context of describing people.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide clarification and review of adjectives in the context of describing people arriving at the airport
  • To provide specific information, detailed and gist listening practice using a text about describing people in the context of working or arriving at the airport

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

teacher will show pictures with different adjectives. She will whisper them and have students repeat after her. Students have to say it with loud voice.After teacher will arrange one chair in front of the class with the back at the WB. Then one by one students will come and sit on the chair.In the back of the chair teacher will show to the rest of the students one of the adjectives picture. They have to mime to the student on the chair what does the adjective describe and the student on the chair should try to guess.

While Listening #1 (4-5 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information listening tasks

T explains to students that they will complete ex.1 and 2 from the Wb.T gives students the handouts. Ss will listen to the recording and check their answers. T will play the recording again and have Ss listen and repeat.

While Listening #2 (5-6 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference listening tasks

T asks students to complete ex.3 according to given categories. Ss will after check their answers as a 2 person group. We will after check with the whole class.

Grammar (8-10 minutes) • To introduce students to adjectives order before a noun

T explains adjectives order on the board using a diagram. After will give students handouts where they will find 5 categories of adjectives collocations: Handsome man, Beautiful woman, pretty girl, good-looking man, Attractive women. Students will think of a famous person for each category and write their names in the circle. They will after compare their answers with a pair. T will after ask some examples from around the class.

Grammar (5-7 minutes) • To practice and check understanding

T gives students a sheet of paper where they can find a list of ten to fifteen categories of previous collocations like: A young pop star. Ss have to work in pairs and write an example for each category. The team that finishes first wins.In feedback, each team reads out 2 of their answers and the other students have to guess which category they come from.

Pre Listening (6-7 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

T explains S what the story is about and on what they should pay attention. After T will ask Ss to choose as a pair one adjective to describe the man in the picture and have it written on the board by both of them keeping the marker in the same time.

While Listening (5-6 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

T introduces ex. 2 from Listening and plays the recording. Ss listen to the dialogue and try to answer the questions individually. T plays the recording again and students listen and match the people to the pictures. After they check as pairs if they answered correctly.

Post Listening (5-6 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

In pair Ss choose and describe a person in one of the pictures. Their partner must guess and point to the person they are describing. Teacher listens and helps if necessary.
