Description

In this lesson, students will be familiar with the context of good deeds and giving and I am going to teach grammar as well as speaking. The lesson starts with listening about a conversation between a woman who works in a charity shop and her husband to set the context then it follows with grammar and then controlled and freer practice at the end of the lesson.

Materials

  • To provide clarification, review and practice of reported speech in the context of giving

  • To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice using reported speech in the context of charity

Procedure

Warmer (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T greets Ss. T shows some pictures on the WB and elicit the word 'charity' quickly. T mentions many charities have shops where they sell donated second-handed goods and reveals some questions on the WB. T gives instruction and asks ICQs. Ss discuss the questions and T monitors. T asks WCFB and introduces the today's topic.

Lead-in (5-7 minutes) • to extract model sentences for the grammar (reported speech)

T introduces the listening and shows three questions on the WB. T gives instruction and asks ICQs. T plays the recording and Ss listen. T asks to peer-check. T asks WCFB.

Test #1 (6-8 minutes) • To gauge students' prior knowledge of the target language

T gives Ss the HO and introduction and asks ICQs Ss do the task. T monitors closely. T asks to peer check and monitors closely. T asks WCFB and writes the answer on the WB and asks Ss to unfold the HO to see the answers. T makes decision to choose plan A (if most of the answers were wrong) or plan B (if most of the answers were right).

Teach (10-15 minutes) • To clarify areas of the target language where students had difficulty in the first test stage

Plan A T shows the model sentences on the WB and gives Ss HO to answer the CCQs. T gives instruction and asks ICQs. Ss answer the questions alone and T monitors. T asks to peer check and monitors. T asks WCFB (clarification of meaning, form and pronunciation). Plan B T shows the model sentences on the WB. T asks CCQs about meaning, form and pronunciation.

Test #2 (6-8 minutes) • Check students' use of the target language again and compare with the first test

T gives Ss the HO. T gives instruction and asks ICQs. Ss do the task alone and T monitors. T asks to peer check. T asks WCFB and reveal the answers on the WB.

Free practice (6-8 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

T shows the questions on the WB and gives instruction and asks ICQs. Ss discuss the questions and T monitors and write their error corrections on the piece of paper. T regroups the class and asks to report what they heard to the new partner. T monitors and correct some mistakes or error. T chooses 2 or 3 learners to report some ideas out load.
