Description

The lesson is about aid worker. Students start speaking about what aid worker is. After this, students have a pre-teaching vocabulary in order to be ready for the gist reading. Later, they read a text about the context. After gist part, there are clarification, controlled practice, and freer practice parts.

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification of reporting verbs and patterns in the context of aid worker

Procedure

Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set the context and engage the students

T will put some photos of aid workers from Turkey and other countries. T will ask two questions related to the photos. 1) Who are those people? 2) What do they do? Sts will work in pairs. They have 2 minutes Get WC FB

Pre-teaching Vocabulary (5-7 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Sts will have HO including some words with their meanings. There will be 3 words that students might not know (persuade, propose, encourage). T will give instructions: You will match the words with the meanings. You have 1 minute. Are you going to write anything? (No) Are you going to work with your partner? (Yes) How many minute do you have? (1) After they work together, one st will write the answers on the board. Get WC FB T will ask if they agree or not. If they agree, t will clarify form and pronunciation. If they not, t will ask CCQs (see language analysis) and then will clarify form and meaning.

Gist reading (5-7 minutes) • To prepare students for the grammar

Sts will answer two questions related to the text. First, they will read the questions. Later, t will give the text to the sts. 1) What does he do during mornings? (paragraph 1) 2) What is his job after visiting a farmers' cooperative in the North? (paragraph 2) T will give instructions: You will answer the two questions related to the text. Are you going to work with your partners? (No) Are you going to read the text detailly? (No) How many minutes do you have? (2) After 2 minutes, they will check their answers in pairs. Get WC FB.

Clarification (10-12 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form, and pronunciation of the target language

T will give HOs to elicit the information from the sts. HO will be about reporting verbs and patterns and examples. Sts will match them. They will work alone and have 2 minutes. Later, they will check their answers with their partners. One st will write the answers on the board. Get WC FB After eliciting, t will give HOs, which is related to the text, in order to clarify the form. They will match the highlighted verbs in the text with their patterns. Sts will work with their partners. They have 3 minutes. One sts will write the answers on the board. Get WC FB After getting FB, t will clarify the pronunciation part. Sts will repeat after teacher.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for freer practice

Sts will have HOs. T will give instructions: You will rewrite the sentences using the verbs in the grammar box, which you have already had. T will give a demo before sts start the practice. T will use the fist sentence of the task as a demo. T will explain the task and then ask ICQs. ICQs: Are you going to rewrite the sentences? (Yes) Are you going to use the verbs in the grammar box? (Yes) Are you going to work with your partner? (Yes) How many minutes do you have? (4) Some sts will write the answers on the board. Get WC FB.

Freer Practice (6-8 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

T will ask sts to remember a memory. T: Remember a memory which can be really sad, happy, exciting, tiring etc. Does not matter. Choose one moment that you can tell your partner. However, when you tell your story, try to use the reporting verbs. For example, my friends invited me to drink something. We talked all night. Then she offered me to go abroad together. Get WC FB.
