Main Aims

  • By the end of the lesson Ss will be able to ask and answer personal questions, using Present Simple, in the final interview activity in order to find three commonality with their partner.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide review and further practice of vocabulary related to family and appearance.


Warmer/Revision (3-5 minutes) • To review vocabulary from the previous lesson

Hot-seat game with appearance vocab. Ss think about a famous person, describe appearance, others guess. Give example with Justin Bieber

Encounter (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text

1. Look at the pic (p. 9, ex. 2) do you knwo the names of the poeple in Bart Simpson's family? 2. Read the text and check your answers. 3. Do you like/ever watch the cartoon?

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

What does the text say about the Mother Simpson? - T writes on the WB. - the father?

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

T asks CCQs: Is the sentence about the past, present or future? (present) it is something that happens always regularly? (yes, something that is always true) What is the formula?

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

ex. 4 p. 9 - in the books as is. Check OC. Pronunciaiton of es - /s/, /z/, /iz/ - match the verbs on the IWB

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

ex. 4 p. 11 Listen and complete the table Write true/false sentences about yourself. Teel your partner for him/her to guess

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Work with a different partner, give as many facts about you and your family to find 3 things you have in common and 3 things which are different. Tell the class.
