Description

In this lesson, the students will hear 5 different people talking about things they did or saw. The students will also practice the vocabulary and review some grammatical aspects.

Main Aims

  • To review and practice speaking about things that students did describing personal experience.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To practise listening for gist and specific information using an audio about what people did.

Procedure

Warmer/ Lead-in (4-5 minutes) • To practise using the questions to interview S's partner

Teacher will ask students whether they like going to restaurants or cafes. then the teacher will tell about her favourite restaurant in Istanbul, giving the reasons, will show the pictures in PPT . Teacher will use the target language at the warmer stage to prepare students for the next activities. Then the teacher will ask students to talk to each other and tell which restaurant or cafe they like giving a short reason why. Just 2-3 students will be asked.

Pre-Listening (2-3 minutes) • To prepare students for the listening and provide them with some general idea of what is going to be heard.

The teacher will show students 5 pictures (they will be sticked on the board), the students will be given 5 strips of paper, their task will be to match the paper with what they see on the picture. Tell them they are going to listen to an interview of 5 different people, they were in the (cafe, restaurant, club etc), listen to what they say about it.

Gist Listening (3-4 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist listening

Listen to 5 people and complete the sentences. The sentences are short. Ss check in groups and then write the missing word on the card and stick it on the WB. After checking, teacher will clarify the meaning of the ''missing '' words, using CCQs and MFP.

Detailed Listening (3-4 minutes) • To provide students with more detailed and specific listening

Teacher will show another slide in PPT, this time the students will have to complete the sentences with more details. 3 sentences. Check in pairs. Write the answers on the board. [Teacher can read a second time, if necessary]

Clarification (3-5 minutes) • To clarify the meaning of the functional language

The teacher will focus students on the words like; "quite good", "really good", "very good". With the help of students will try to elicit the difference. Will draw a line to visualize them. CCQs to help me. Then the students will have to decide whether the speaker was happy or sad, they will use positive and negative mark and stick it on the board.

Controlled Practice (2-3 minutes) • To get students practice the functional language in a context and prepare them for the speaking activity

Teacher will show students a slide in PPT Their task will be to match and continue a short story. Work in pairs.

Freer practice (6-8 minutes) • Practice of using functional language, and error correction afterwards.

Teacher will start with personal example, by telling about where she went, what she did, whether she was glad or not. Then teacher will offer students to mingle and talk to 3-4 people, they will be sharing their own experience in terms of the context. The ideas will be offered on the board, optionally. At the end teacher will ask students to tell what they heard about each other. While students will be sharing teacher will note the mistakes, at the end write them on the board and together with students elicit the right way of speaking.

If-time Activity (3-5 minutes) • To provide students with more practice of functional language

If time allows, the students will be given an exercise, their task will be to correct the mistakes. Check in pairs.
