Description

In this lesson, students will read about internet addicts. They will ask questions of themselves using simple present verbs and use the expression "too much". In the end, they will have to look within and ask the question, "Am I an internet addict, as well?"

Materials

Abc Reading

Main Aims

  • To provide students with the ability to say when a habit has become too much...and even an addiction!

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide students with the opportunity of learning AND and BUT as connecting words

Procedure

Lead-In (2-3 minutes) • To help focus their minds on the upcoming subject material

I will present my iPhone 6s and tell them that I use it 'too much' and that I am addicted to it.

Opening Discussion (3-5 minutes) • To help students with new vocabulary (verbs)

I will ask them various questions using the target language: to make, to spend, to listen, to find, to practice

Read the article (7-10 minutes) • To provide students with the opportunity of reading an article

They will break up into groups and take turns reading, sentence by sentence, the article about internet addicts.

Answer the questions about the article (5-6 minutes) • To practice Q and A

Students work in pairs now

Read email from Paula (5-6 minutes) • To practice more reading

As a class, we will stand at the front and read this in a circle. Then, we shall identify the four adverbs of frequency in the article.

Answer questions (5-7 minutes) • To provide Ss with opportunity to do detailed reading

They will work in pairs and discover the answers

Grammar (and, but) (3-5 minutes) • To practice conjunctions (and, but)

Put an example for each on the board

Final Practice (5-8 minutes) • To practice writing using the target language

Students work individually as they practice writing with the target language
