Extreme adjectives/Vocabulary level

Description

In this lesson, ss will learn extreme adjectives through discussions about films, books and restaurants. They will learn the usage and pronunciation of these adjectives. They will engage in fluency speaking practice using these expressions through reviewing the books, movies, restaurants by using past tense.

Procedure

Lead In (7-7 minutes) • To introduce the students and create a personal interest in the context

T displays visuals of a restaurant, book, movie which are well known in Turkey and sticks smiley faces on the WB. T says ”I watched a movie called...and it was boring,I Went to a restaurant it's called... it was expensive but it was OK. I read a book by....it was interesting and wonderful.Ss predict the context.Ss will be given a minute to think of other equivalent words to express these ideas.

Exposure and highlighting (5-5 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a discussion and pay attention to TL

T gives adjective cards to each student and draws a cline on the WB.Ss will discuss where these adjectives can go on the cline. T uses ICQS to help her and Ss sticks the adjectives and realize that some of them can go to the same part.

Clarification (7-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, usage and pronunciation of the TL

T shows extreme adjectives in correct order and clarifies the meaning. T crosses out the wrong usages as well. T models sentences from the context. I will also use gestures to be clear. I will drill the pronunciation with the ss when all the adjectives are given.Use CCQs in this session: Can I say” It was very wonderful or it was very terrible? No It was quite wonderful or quite terrible? No It was very good or quite good?yes Not good instead of bad ? Yes

Controlled practice (5-7 minutes) • To concept check and prepare ss for more meaningful practices

Ss will work in pairs and T distributes sets of cards including sentences with extreme adjectives, but not in the correct order. Ss will put them in correct order according to the cline. T could elicit it on the board first. Answer Key will be delivered to them. ICQs: Will you work together or alone?together Will you put the sentences in order? Yes

Semi Controlled Practice (7-7 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare ss for free practice

T gives ss HO2 including model sentences and a cline. They will write their own sentences about a movie, restaurant and a book.they will put them into order on their own cline as well.When they complete it, they will be asked to share their ideas in pairs. ICQs: Will you write your own ideas? Yes Will you choose a movie, restaurant and a book?yes. Will you show on the cline how much you liked it ? Yes Feedback: check in pairs, T will elicit one or two responses.

Freer practice (7-7 minutes) • To provide ss with freer practice of TL

T sticks pictures around the classroom and ss are divided into three groups that will be named as movie, book and restaurant. Ss will go to the picture that they represent. Duty cards will be given to the group members. T will tell them on each card they will find some steps to follow.Their job is deciding which movie, restaurant, book to talk about anD tell what they think of it. Every group will choose a speaker. Time limitation is 3 min. Ask ICQS: Will you find a movie, book etc?yes Will it be the same as your group members ? Yes Will you write anything?no Will you use adjectives to tell your opinion? Yes

If time activity (5-5 minutes) • To use the TL in a real life situation. To have them naturally produce the language by themselves.

Ss will change their locations and they will not be given any duty cards to follow this time. They will find a new restaurant, movie etc. in common To discuss their opinions. Error Focused Feedback could be managed here.
