Description

In this lesson, the teacher will start the lesson with asking "Where do like to go?" for travelling. The teacher will show some pictures of different types of journeys to have the students engage in the context. In order to exposure to the target language, the teacher will introduce some vocabulary about the context, Then, they will read and understand two short reading passages about journeys. This is followed by speaking about the journey that the students have experienced. After that, in order to practive the vocabulary, the teacher will give the students hand out to complete the control practice stage. In the end, the students will have free practice via a role play speaking activity.

Main Aims

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

The teacher displays 5 pictures: a train, a train station, a boat on the Amazon, Amazon River and hammocks on a boat. The students will be given the cards that indicate the pictures. The students will try to indicate the pictures and match the word that is written on their cards with the appropriate picture on the board. Then, the T will pick two of the means of transportation which are mentioned in the reading passages and engage the students in the lesson by asking them to guess the topic of the day.

Pre-Reading (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

The teacher will introduce some vocabulary taken from the reading passages using pictures, WB, gestures, demonstration etc.. and help the ss discover the meanings of them. Then T will work on pronunciation and do drilling practice of the vocabulary.

While-Reading #1 (12-15 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading tasks

The teacher will give the students a HO that contents two texts about the journey. The sts will have 1 minutes for gist reading. Then, The T will give the sts one more minute to share and discuss the gist of the texts with their partner. After that, the T will ask the pairs to guess about the type of transportation of each journey that mentioned in the text. The T will ask CCQs to ensure they understand the new vocabulary. Does journey take short time? Can you travel on boat? Is Amazon river long? Is Amazon river wide? Can you sleep in hammock? Can you read a book in hammock? The teacher will write two questions about the purpose of the texts and give the sts 4 minutes to read the texts again. After they finish reading, T will tell the sts to answer the questions on the WB and discuss together. The teacher monitors the sts during tasks and provide feedback as the sts need. ICQs: How many sentences are on the WB? Why do you read the texts? (to understand the purpose of reading texts) How much time do you have? (4 minutes)

Freer Prcatice (10-12 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

The teacher will ask the sts to think about their journey experience or their dream journey. The T will give the sts HO to help them create and write some idea to about their journey on the HO. Then the T will have the sts work in pairs and talk about their own journey. Then, the T will ask some of the sts to tell his/her peer's journey story.
