Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (7-7 minutes) • Warm up the Ss with the idea of children's queistons

A brief lead in about children's question. My little son asked me "why don't we have 3 eyes? For me this was unanswerable. Instruction: Work in Groups and talk about questions children might ask and discuss how you would answer these questions. ICQ: Are you going to discuss about children's problems? (No) Nominate each pair for their ideas. Instruction: Read very quickly a review of a book about questions children ask. Discuss how the author got the idea for the book? Give HO1. Nominate a student from each group - FB

Pre-Listening / Vocabulary (7-7 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Elicit the vocabulary from students. Then CCQ. Volcano CCQ: Do we have a active volcano in Turkey? Erupt: Volcano become active and sends lava, ash, and gases out: Do you remember the volcano erupted and effected all Europe recently? (Iceland Volcano-Barbarbunga) Break up: to end a relationship, to break up with a friend. If two people break up, they end their relationship. CCQ: Did you break up with a friend of yours? Amazed: extremely surprised. How would you feel If a 4 year old boy plays piano perfectly. Give the synonym as well. "Surprised", "Astonished" Expert: a person with a high level of knowledge or skill relating to a particular subject or activity. CCQ: Do you know any financial expert? Is there an expert in computer programming. Give the synonym "Specialist" Shut down : stop working completely What would you do if your car shuts down in the highway?

While Listening #1 (4-4 minutes) • To enable students to practise listening for gist and to give them a general idea about the context

Instruction: Listen to the audio. You will listen just once. Number the questions according to the order you hear them in. HO2 (5.2 Listening) ICQ: Will you answer the questions? (No) Check your answers with your pairs. Answer Key: 2, 1, 5, 4, 3 FB: Nominate a student from each group.

Prediction Task #2 (4-4 minutes) • To enable students to practise speaking for prediction

Instruction: Discuss possible answers with your partner to these questions. Use the HO2-3. You have 4 minutes. ICQ: What are you going to do? How many hairs are there on the human head? Why are the windows on ships always round? Why is there war? Why did The Beatles break up? What happens when your plane flies over a volcano?

While Listening (6-6 minutes) • to enable practice listening for detail

Instruction: Listen to the audio between a man and two women. Check if their answers to the questions are same as yours? (5.3 Listening) Play the audio second time if needed. (play the recording again if time allows.) ICQ: Are you going to write anything? (No) How many answers are the same as yours? FB

While Listening (7-7 minutes) • To enable student to practice listening for specific information

Instruction: Listen to the audio again and fill out the blanks. Recording: 5.2 HO4 Answer Key: 1 - Are stronger 2 - 10,000 3- The engines shut down, stop working completely 4- They all grew up and wanted to do things their own way 5- Economic reasons, fear

Post Listening (10-10 minutes) • to have students practise speaking with and about target vocabulary taught

Instruction: Here are some unanswerable questions. Ask each other and guess the answers. Work in pairs. A and B get different questions with answers. ICQ: Are you going to write anything? FB is given during the tasks by the students.
