In this lesson, students will learn the vocabulary about the places in towns

Main Aims

  • To introduce and practice lexis related to places in towns

Subsidiary Aims

  • Students practice the use of the target language in the context of places in towns.

Procedure

Lead In (2-4 minutes) • To get the students' attention to the topic of the day.

I will come into the lesson with a to do list in my hand. I will elicit the words "mayor", "town hall" and "bakery"

Vocabulary Presentation (8-10 minutes) • To familiarize students with the names for places in the towns.

Teacher introduces the vocabulary about places in towns by showing pictures. After elicitation, he drills and writes the board.

Controlled practice (7-8 minutes) • To practice the newly learned vocabulary

Teacher gives the HO and sets 7 minutes for this activity. Students do the activitiy alone first, then teachers asks them to check their answers in pairs. Finally teacher gives the answerkey.

Controlled practise- Puzzle (9-11 minutes) • To review the vocabulary students have learned in this lesson

Teacher hands out a puzzle, and students fill in the puzzle with the key vocabulary of the lesson. When they have finised, first they check in pairs then the teacher gives the answerkey.

Freer Practice (11-13 minutes) • To practice the newly learned items combined with "there is", "there are" structure they learned in the previous lesson.

Teacher puts the students into groups of two, and gives out a Handout on which he wants them to write about the town they live in. When they have finished, they will compare their hometowns with their pair's. If they have time, the teacher wants each student to read out one or two sentences.
