Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Draw a family tree on board. Put your name on it, then put your family memebers names on it (4 or 5). Then tell the students about your family. E.g - Huseyin is my father, he is 55 years old and is Turkish. He lives in London now with my mum and 2 siblings of mine. He left home when he was 25 and got married when he was 25. Ask students to copy and complete the family tree. Ask S to tell about their family to their peers and ask for feedback. HAVE THE WORDS BELOW WRITTEN ON THE BOARD ASIDE AS 'VOCABULARY' Family Live Married Father Mother

Pre-Reading/Listening (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Ask students to read quickly, and not to worry about the language. Read for 5 minutes and check with their peers what the problem is with Andy.

While-Reading/Listening #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

After peer check, ask the students to answer what is the problem with Andy? Ask the whole class: Is Andy Married? Does Andy still live at home? Ask every student by name to answer the questions above after whole class feedback.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

Now ask the students to read in detail and answer the questions on Reading exercise 2. Students will have 5 minutes. Then ask students to peer check their answers they have 5 minutes. As a whole class feedback, answer the questions by nominating: 1. Is Andy 32 years old? NO 2. Does Andy have a car? YES 3. Does Andy's mother want him to live at home? YES 4. Does Emily live with Andy? 5. Is Andy married? 6. Does his father love him? Yes 7. Does Andy like his house? YES

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Now ask students who's opinions they agree with in the story and ask to discuss with peers. After nominate if no one offers to talk to: Ask students if they know someone in the same situation as Andy. Ask students if they live at home. Clairfy any common errors such as pronunciation.
