Description

In this lesson students practice on one of the receptive skill. The reading is about 'Family trip'. It Is from a book called 'The lost Continent' written by Bill Brayson. They will learn some new and useful lexis from the text.

  • My main aim is for students to practice on their receptive skill.

Subsidiary Aims

  • My sub-aim Is for students to practice more on the grammar 'used to'.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T will ask two questions Do you like taking trips? Who do you like go on trips with? (Family, friends...) Why? Ss will work In pairs. T monitors the students and If necessary help them to make better sentences. T gets FB.

Pre-Reading/Listening (2-3 minutes) • Reading for gist

T asks students to look at the text and find out 'what's the text about?'

While-Reading/Listening #1 (5-7 minutes) • Reading for specific information

Students match adverbs in box with adverbs underlined In the text. It is better to assign this activity as pair work, strong students help weaker ones to find the similar meanings. T will ask Students to check other pairs work to see every one has done it correctly.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (5-10 minutes) • Reading for detail

T firs pre-teaches the words ( veer, porcupine,gesticulating) T gives students the HO, and gets students to do the T, F activity. Students are supposed to correct the False statements. What are you going to do? To find out which one Is true and which one Is false. Are going to correct the False statements? Yes. Are going to work In pairs? No, on your own. Do you need a pen? Yes. Do you need a dictionary? NO. Ss check their answers in pairs. Answer key will be shown on the board.

While-Reading/Listening #3 (5-7 minutes)

Students again work in pairs and choose the most appropriate meaning from the alternatives. Ss check other pairs. The answer key will be shown on the board.

Post-Reading/Listening (10-15 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

T divides Ss in group of threes and asks students If they remember what they used to do to pass time on long car journeys? T writes play games, play cards, fighting,arguing, listening to music, sleeping,reading magazines short stories,eating, fighting for front seat and back seat. look out from the window.. on the board to help students. If there was extra time, T asks students to change their partners and tell their partners' stories.
