Thurs. Jun 3rd, 2025 - RLS: talking through options to reach a decision (dialogue creation)

Materials

Main Aims

  • By the end of the lesson, students will be able to create a dialogue in a veterinary context in which they talk through options to reach a decision, using appropriate expressions to encourage or discourage actions based on animal care situations.

Subsidiary Aims

  • By the end of the lesson, students will be able to create a dialogue in a veterinary context in which they talk through options to reach a decision, encouraging and discouraging actions, while incorporating functional language seen in previous lessons.

Procedure

Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

The teacher shares an online activity with the students and asks them to complete it in pairs, encouraging collaboration as they work together to apply the language and concepts practiced during the week.

Exposure (6-8 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading

The teacher elicits students to remember the characteristics of a good dialogue.

Productive Task (30-35 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

The teacher gives the students a piece of paper and asks them to create a dialogue in which they talk through options to reach a decision, specifically encouraging and discouraging actions within a veterinary context. She emphasizes that the students must also incorporate two other language functions covered in previous classes, reinforcing their ability to integrate different communicative skills in a realistic scenario.

Feedback and Error Correction (8-10 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

The teacher provides feedback on their dialogue and asks them to create a final version and submit it as a PDF.
