Description

In this lesson students will develop their abilities to listen for gist .First of all , I will raise their interest in the topic which is "Unusual pastimes".Students will watch a one-minute video about a storm chasing tour .Then,the teacher will ask students some questions relating to unusual pastimes .Do do you have an unusual hobby? How often do you do it?What equipment do you need?What is the most unusual hobby you have heard of?Why do some people take up unusual hobbies?Next stage of my lesson will be pre-teaching vocabulary to clarify areas of the target language where students may face difficulty in listening for gist or for specific information.Students listen to instruction before they listen to the audio ,check their answers in pairs and in groups .Students listen again for specific information and check their answers in pairs and group work .Finally,teacher will set a post-listening task that depends on forming questions and discuss these questions with their parters.

Materials

Main Aims

  • Students will have had the opportunity to develop their oral fluency.
  • By the end ,students will have had the opportunity to develop their ability to listen for gist and specific information

Subsidiary Aims

  • By the end of the lesson ,students will also have revised question forms .

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in 'Unusual pastimes' (4-5 minutes) • To raise students' interest in the topic

Teacher will ask students some questions about unusual past time in Turkey.I will raise their interest in the topic which is "Unusual pastimes".Students will watch a one-minute video about a storm chasing tour .Then,the teacher will ask students some questions relating to unusual pastimes .Do do you have an unusual hobby? How often do you do it?What equipment do you need?What is the most unusual hobby you have heard of?Why do some people take up unusual hobbies?

Pre-teaching vocabulary (6-8 minutes) • To prepare students for the audio and make it accessible.

Teacher will elicit some vocabulary relating to the gist and specific information questions using an advertisement about storm chasers.Students will work in pairs to know about the topic and know the new vocabulary .

While Listening (5-7 minutes) • Listen for gist to get a general idea and answer three questions

Teacher will handout three questions ,ask students to read the questions well ,Listen to the dialogue between two old friends and answer the questions. 1- Where are they? Where are they going? 2- What does Lara think of storm-chasers? 3- What is Pet’s link with the tour? Teacher will play the audio once and ask students to check their answer in pairs.Then I will use WCFB to check that they listen for gist and answer the three questions .

While Listening (10-13 minutes) • Listen for gist to get a general idea and answer three questions

While Listening2 (7-10 minutes) • Students will listen again for specific information

Teacher will hand out a sheet of six sentences about specific information.Students will read the questions ,then they will listen

Post listening task (4-8 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the audio and expand on what they've learned in a speaking activity

teacher will ask students to form questions to be asked to your partner .Students will form questions and check in pairs after that they will ask these questions as a discussion .
