Reinforce comprehension of comparatives, superlatives, and adverbs of frequency in natural contexts
Procedure (48-60 minutes)
Display or describe 3 quick comparisons: Online shopping vs. in-person Coffee vs. tea Weekends vs. weekdays Ask: Which do you prefer? Why is one better? Students respond using comparatives or superlatives.
Review key vocabulary from Week 6 by having students match: Adjective – comparative – superlative (e.g. fun – more fun – the most fun) Then elicit adverbs of frequency and examples: always, usually, often, rarely, never
Task: Students listen once and answer: What are they comparing? What is the topic? Who is speaking and what do they prefer? Check answers in pairs.
Procedure: Second listen. Students fill out Cornell Notes: Left column: comparative/superlative structures Right column: key opinions or habits Bottom: a two-sentence summary Ask them to underline or star any adverbs of frequency they hear.
Procedure: In small groups, students: Share notes Choose one idea from the audio and compare it to their own lifestyle Create 2 sentences: 1 using a comparative or superlative 1 using an adverb of frequency
Procedure: Students complete this prompt: Today I learned that ______ is more ______ than ______. I usually ______ on weekends, but in the audio they ______. Instructor reviews 2–3 examples with the board. Emphasize grammar accuracy.
