Rising Stars, Present perfect simple

Description

In this lesson, students will use present perfect simple to talk about their past experience. the lesson starts with descriptions of some jobs and some vocabularies which make them ready to go for speaking part, then they will listen to a talk show host which asks people's past experience. This is followed by the grammar which is present perfect simple and at the end speaking part.

Procedure

Grammar (20-25 minutes) • Clarification (Meaning, form, pronunciation)

1. Greet students 2. Ask students ‘remember what Jerry the talk show host asked people?’ 3. Elicit the question and write in on the WB as number 3. • Have you ever met anyone famous? 4. Ask students ‘remember who Michelle met?’ Elicit the answer, write it on the WB as number 1. • She has met Brat Pitt and Jennifer Lopez. 5. Ask students ‘remember what Michelle did for Brat Pitt and Jennifer Lopez?’ elicit the answer and write it on the WB as number 2. • She said: I have served Brat Pitt and Jennifer Lopez. 6. Ask students to read the first sentence. Ask CCQs. • Is she meeting Brat Pitt and Jennifer Lopez right now? • Did she meet them in the past? • Is it past, present or future? • When did she meet them in the past? • Did she meet them more than once? • But when exactly? 7. Draw the time table on the WB, show indefinite time and (ask CCQs again.) 8. Ask students to read the second sentence. Ask CCQs. • Am I serving them now? • Did I serve them in the past? • Is it past, present or future? • When did I serve them in the past? • Did I serve them more than once? • But when exactly? 9. Ask students to read the last sentence. Ask CCQs. • Does Jerry know Michelle met anyone famous? • Does he know when Michelle met anyone famous? 10. Divide the WB into two parts and ask students some questions (who did Valerio meet? who Valerio talked to?) to elicit the following sentences: • Valerio met Madonna two days ago. • He talked to Leonardo DiCaprio last week. 11. Ask CCQs for the first sentence. • Is he meeting Madonna now? • Did he meet Madonna? • When did he meet Madonna? 12. Draw the time table on the WB, show definite time and read the second sentence and ask CCQs. • Is he talking to Leonardo DiCaprio now? • Did he talk to Leonardo DiCaprio? • When did he talk to Leonardo DiCaprio? 13. Explain the form. Affirmative, negative and questions on the model sentences. 14. Explain the pronunciation on the model sentences and have some substitution drills. 15. Give students the HO of comparing two tenses, put them in pairs and ask them to answer the following questions. 16. Choose one pair and get one of them to ask the questions and another answer.

Review the Past Perfect Simple (If it is needed) (3-5 minutes) • Review

1. In case students have difficulty remembering the past participle, review some verbs quickly by giving each pair the HO to complete the table by writing the simple past and the past participle simple. 2. FB. Ask each pair to say the correct forms and give them the answer key.

Dialogue completion (5-10 minutes) • Practice

1. Regroup students by number. 2. Give each student the HO to complete the dialogue with past simple and present perfect simple. 3. Ask them to do it all alone. 4. Get them to check the answers with their partner. 5. Ask one pair to stand before the class and perform the dialogue.

Have you ever … game! (5-10 minutes) • Speaking

1. Introduce the ‘Have you ever … game?’ 2. Give them the handout and ask them to go around the class and interview friends, if the answer is yes, ask more questions to find out the details. 3. FB by asking students who has ever …. and some detailed questions.
