Description

This lessons starts with a completion exercise to differentiate between the meaning of Present Perfect Simple and Past Simple. Then, an exercise of the words/ phrases that are used with both tenses follow. A focus on pronunciation of the two tenses is done next. After that, a practice exercise on the use of the tow tenses in context is presented. A final personalized practice come by the end of the lesson.

Main Aims

  • To provide Ss an opportunity to express their current and past experiences through using the present perfect simple and the past simple tenses

  • To help Ss elicit the form of the two target tenses
  • To practice using PPS and PS in meaningful situations
  • To provide speaking practice in a selected chunks and phrases

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

To ask students to refer back to the previous exercise and then complete the rules

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

Giving graded instructions to the activity

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

To cover points a-e in exercise 3

Pronunciation Practice (8-10 minutes) • To drill on sentence stress and contractions

Doing exercises 4 and 5

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

Doing exercise 6

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language
