Description

In this lesson students will learn how to use superlatives and comparatives. Students will be able to distinguish between the two and, by the end of the class, they will be able to make sentences using superlatives when talking about activities and places.

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide practice of superlatives in the context of activities and cities

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide practice of language used for superlatives in the context of the classroom and their peers.
  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of activities and cities

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

The teacher (T) will introduce herself and then ask 3-5 students (S) the warmup questions in the presentation asking them beforehand to pay close attention to the words that are in bold.

Exposure and highlighting (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Teacher will explain what comparatives are and will provide examples to the students. Then Teacher will explain what superlatives and give examples, then T will mark the difference between these two.

Clarification (3-5 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Teacher will ask students if there are any doubts about when and how to use comparatives and/or superlatives.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Teacher will give students sentences and they will have to complete the blanks with the correct word. T will ask one student to complete the sentence or ask for a volunteer.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Teacher will ask students to participate in the activity presented in slide 20 of the presentation.
