Materials

Main Aims

  • By the end of the lesson, students will be able to perform a dialogue in a veterinary context in which they refuse an invitation and respond to a refusal appropriately, using polite expressions and natural conversational tone.

Subsidiary Aims

  • By the end of the lesson, students will be able to perform a dialogue in a veterinary context in which they use "kind of" to soften a refusal, demonstrating polite and tactful communication.

Procedure

Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

The teacher shares some expressions and asks the students to read them, focusing on intonation and rhythm.

Useful Language (10-15 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

The teacher asks the students to practice their conversation. The first time, they are allowed to use their notes; the second time, they are not.

Productive Task(s) (30-35 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

The teacher asks each pair to perform their conversation.

Feedback and Error Correction (8-10 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

The teacher provides general feedback.
