Description

This 45-minute online lesson is designed for pre-intermediate adult learners and focuses on developing their writing skills through the context of writing a personal email to a family member about life during the lockdown. The grammatical focus of the lesson is the Present Perfect Continuous, which learners will use to describe recent activities and ongoing routines. By the end of the lesson, students will have practiced the present perfect continuous in writing, and will have produced a short, personal email demonstrating their understanding of both the tense and the conventions of informal written communication.

Main Aims

  • To enable students to write a short informal email to a family member describing what they have been doing during the lockdown, using the present perfect continuous tense accurately.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To raise awareness of the structure and conventions of informal email writing (e.g., greetings, tone, sign-offs).
  • To build relevant vocabulary related to daily routines and activities during lockdown.
  • To provide practice of the present perfect continuous tense for describing recent and ongoing activities.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Students will answer questions to create a dialogue and tell their experiences throught the lockdown during the pandemic. Questions to guide the speaking: "How did you feel during the lockdown?" "Did you keep in touch with family/friends online?" "What kinds of things did you tell them?"

Exposure and Clarification (15 minutes) • To context the target language and clarify the meaning, form and formality of the target language.

- I will show my sample of an email and I will aske them to read it and complete a very short Gist task in google docs. - Then I will present CCQS to make them work in peers so they peak and answer the questions. 1. Identify the parts that a email have. Please fill the parenthesis on the email with the right answer D)greeting C) intro A)body B) closing E)signature 2.Is it formal or informal language? How do you know? 3.Write sentences of 3 activities described in the email (full sentences) Then wuth the examples provided I will explain form and meaning. (They supossed to inductibly started to know this aspects but I will reforced them).

Writing production (15-17 minutes) • To produce their own sample of writing

Students will create their own piece of writing: Write a short email (100-120 words) to a family member (mom, aunt, cousin, etc.) telling them how lockdown has been for you. ✅ Include: A greeting (e.g., “Hi…”) Two to four things you’ve been doing One feeling or emotion during lockdown One thing you’re looking forward to A friendly closing (e.g., Keep safe, Take care, Love,)

Delayed correction (6-8 minutes) • To correct error after the production

Students will read other student´s email and they will use the checklit to make sure the writing piece is correct or of something is missing and they can provide feedback.
