Description

In this lesson, students will solidify their knowledge of question word order, when to use auxiliary verbs and when they are not needed. They will listen to three friends who are having an argument about the sport of paintballing, having discussion and sharing their own opinions and doing specific listening tasks.

  • To provide clarification and give students practise forming questions

  • To practice listening for gist and detail

Procedure

Warmer/ Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T will give students a quick activity to spark their interest. The T will show students some pictures of hobbies. T-S task feedback.

Lead-in to listening (3-4 minutes) • To prepare students for the listening session

T will ask students if they know what paintball is and elicit some guesses about it.

Gist Listening (6-7 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist listening

T will provide a picture of three speakers to make listening more engaging. Ss should listen and decide if the sentences are true or false. The learners check in pairs. WCF

Listen for detail (5-7 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed listening

S listen and complete exercise three.

Post-listening task (2-3 minutes) • To prepare Ss for the next stage of the lesson

T asks students, '' Who do you agree with- Dave, Harry, or Jayne?'' Why? Ss will discuss with their partner.

Language Focus (8-9 minutes) • To review the concept of a Subject and an Object Questions

Have Ss focus on ex. 2. Have students try to fill in the blanks. Ss pair check. T focuses on difference between subject and object questions -asks students which questions from ex.2 don't need an auxiliary verb, and why.

Controlled practice (3-4 minutes) • To solidify knowledge about Subject Object Questions

Have Ss complete ex.4. Ss check in pairs WCF

Freer practice (3-6 minutes) • To practise using the questions to interview S's partner

Have student use their mentioned hobbies at the beginning of the lesson. WCF
