Main Aims

  • To raise students' awareness of environmentally friendly packaging solutions.
  • To practice vocabulary related to packaging ,recycling and environment.
  • To develop students' reading and speaking skills based on the topic of the Green packaging.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To practice skimming and scanning skills for the reading comprehension.
  • To encourage students to express personal opinions about environmental topics.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Teacher shows students pictures of several packaging ;plastic bags, paper bags, glass bottles, cardboard boxes. Ask question: 'Which packaging do you use most often? Which is better for the environment? Why?

Pre-Reading/Listening (10-25 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Pre-tech target words: biodegradable ,recyclable ,environment ,packaging ,protect ,waste. Use pictures ,simple definitions ,and CCQs (concept checking questions):Could we use recyclable things again?(YES) "is biodegradable good or bad for nature?(Good)

While-Reading/Listening #1 (10-25 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening/ tasks

Set Gist task: Read /Listen and choose the best title for the text. Options: 1.How to protect the environment? 2.Green Packaging. 3.Recycling plastic bags. Students read/listen and choose the correct title. Answer:2 Green Packaging.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

SET Task:Students answer True/False statements. 1:Green packaging helps protect nature.(True) 2:Companies only use plastic(False) 3:Cardboard can be recycled.(True) 4.Plastic is biodegradable. (False)

Post-Reading/Listening (8-20 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Pair speaking task: "What Packaging do you use at home? Do you recycle? What could you do to protect the environment? Provide sentence starters: :"At home, i use " , "i recycle...."
