Main Aims

To develop students` productive skills of writing and speaking by writing an email to a friend about their new English class and introducing themselves to a new classmate.
Subsidiary Aims

To develop students' ability to organize short texts and introduce themselves in simple spoken English.

To review and practice present simple structures (e.g, "There are...", "I like...", "We have classes on...". "My teacher is..."
Procedure (45-85 minutes)
Teacher shows a picture of a classroom. Ask questions to personalize: "Do you study English?", "Where do you study?", "How many students are in your class?", "Do you have new classmates?"
Teacher shows a short model email: "Hi Anna. I started my new class last week. There are 12 students in the class. My teacher is very nice. We have classes on Monday and Wednesday. I really like it!". Teacher reads aloud, students read silently. Check understanding: "How many students are in the class?" "When are the classes?'
Teacher elicits and writes useful phrases: "I started...", "There are...", "My teacher is...", "I like...", "We have classes on...","There are___students". Drill pronunciation. Quick gap-fill exercise for practice.
Writing task: Students write an email to a friend about their new English class. Instructions: "Write 4-5 sentences. Talk about your teacher, classmates, schedule, and how you feel". Write an email to a friend about your new English class. Write about: where your class is who your teacher is and where they are from who the students are and where they are from Speaking task: Students record themselves meeting a new student. They say: "My name is___. I am from___. I study English at___. My teacher is___. I like my class." Record yourself meeting a new student for the first time. Say: your name where you are from. Teacher monitors, collects errors for feedback.
Teacher writes common errors on the board anonymously. Elicit corrections. Praise correct use of useful language.
