Main Aims

  • To provide clarification of Passive voice in the context of Everyday conversations

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in a Conversation in the context of Everyday conversations

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in and Exposure (2-3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

In this stage, I am going to show the students some pictures and ask them some questions about them (Do you know when the Eiffel tower was built? / Do you know how many Lego pieces are produced every year? / Do you know when the first car was invented? / Do you know how many trees are cut down everyday?)

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

In this stage I will write two sentences on the board which one of them is the active form of a sentence and the other one is the passive form of that sentence. Then. I will ask some CCQs (Is there a difference in meaning between sentence number 1 and 2? / What is the role of the word at the beginning of the sentences? / What is the verb form? / Why we used were/was in this sentence? (then I explain that we should look at the tense if the subject is singular or plural) / What do we have after the subject? / Can you make the present simple passive form of the sentence?) I will clarify that we can use the “by” at the end of the sentences but it is optional and we use it if we want to mention the person or thing that done the action. (then person or thing is the doer not the subject) I will explain that Past Participle form and past simple form can look the same in regular verbs. I will explain the role of the first word in the beginning of the passive sentence which is object as subject or we use the object as the subject I will clarify the use of passive voice in everyday conversations. (The the doer it isn’t known or important)

Controlled Practice (2-3 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

I will give the students 2 minutes to read and fill the blanks in question 10C in the grammar bank and I will ask each of them separately to read on answer out loud.

Free Practice • To provide students with free practice of the target language

I will write 3 places (hospital / airport / restaurant) on the board and ask the students to discuss with their partner about the things that are done in these places.

Highlighting (2-3 minutes) • To draw student’s attention to the target language
