To provide gist and detailed listening practice using a text about cities in the context of cities

Subsidiary Aims

To provide product writing practice of a list in the context of where to go

Procedure (75-105 minutes)

Warmer/Lead-in (5-10 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

act1-A - London: big Ben, London eye (observation wheel) - Singapore: 1 city - Sydney: Opera house, beach

Exposure (15-20 minutes) • To provide a model of the task and highlight useful words and phrases

act1-B&C&D listening- gist listening- detail - talk together about questions in part D

Task (20-30 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

Act2-A&B probable new words: monument, palace, castle, scenic useful phrases: we can go to...., we should go to..., let's eat at..., what about..., I really want to see...

Language Analysis (20-25 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the task language

Self study PG.114 clarification of useful language for giving directions (elicit as much as possible) (crossroad, traffic light, across, opposite...)

Language Practice (15-20 minutes) • To provide students with practice of the task language
