In this lesson, students will review about the present simple and present continuous, and they will be introduced to the topic by sitting on the board some pictures and they will try to guess what is happening in the pictures, after that they have a clarifications from the teacher about the meaning, form, and pronunciation, then they will have controlled and semi controlled practices.

Main Aims

  • To clarify and practice the use of Present simple and present Continuous for things happening at this moment, now and for future arrangements in the context of everyday routines

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide the students with the practice of speaking for accuracy in the context of everyday activities


Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will divide the WB vertically in two. On the left, I will put some pictures about someone's everyday life. On the right, I will pictures about the same person but as he is now in Turkey. I will elicit the sentences from the students and write them on the WB.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To Point out to the TL and Clarify the meaning, form, and pronunciation.

I will Analyses the sentences one by one and clarify the differences in meaning and form between the simple and continuous, then I will clarify some points about pronunciation and do some drilling.

Controlled Practice/ Meaning (3-5 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

I will give them hand-out and tell them to answer ex1 ask some ICQs to check that they understand the task. They will work alone, after that I will ask them to peer check, then tell them to listen to the clip and check their answers

Controlled Practice/Form (5-7 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

From the Same hand out they have had, I will ask them to answer ex3 in Pairs While monitoring I will invite some students to write their answers on the board Then ask them to check their answers with other pairs, then take WCFB

If Time Practices (5-8 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging practices to make sure they understand the meaning and form correctly.

I will give them a hand out and ask them to answer ex3 alone, and then check with their partners. monitor. Then I will write the answer key on WB On the same hand out, tell them to answer ex4 with their partners, then check answers with another pairs.

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

I will arrange the seats the shape of plane seats (if time) and tell them that they are traveling to Ankara, and each person should talk to the person next to him and ask him questions like: Where are you going? What do you work? Where do you live In able to make them use the present Continuous along with Present simple. Take feedback and make some error correction when needed.
