Description

In this lesson ss will learn some grammar in the context of "Changing holidays". They will be exposed to the target language through a listening conversationabout holidays. After being exposed to the target language, the skills focus will be on writing and speaking activity using the target language.

  • To provide product writing practice of a essay in the context of changing holidays

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Teacher will ask the students about what do they do after the course. For example: Do you go home?, Do you go to some cafe?, Do you go for a tea? etc...A small discussion between teacher and students will take place around those questions.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

After some brief and clear instructions, students will participate in a listening task in the context of "Changing holidays". During listening, they will be exposed to the target language. After the listening of a dialogue they will try to fill in the blanks the missing words. The task is to be done alone, but the answers will be check in pairs. Teacher will participate by giving the feedback.

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

In this stage of the lesson, students will now focus on the target language. Their task is to underline the examples of "(be) going to" in the dialogue. Teacher will give the feedback by projecting the dialogue on the board and will underline the target language.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

In order to clarify the meaning of "going to", teacher will ask the students "Do we use "going to", to talk about the past, the present, or the future? By using some CCQ's, teacher will try to explain to the students that "going to" is used to express some future plans, some predictions. In the second part, students will focus on the form of the verb after going to by looking to the dialogue. By giving some examples presented on the board and using some CCQ's teacher will explain the form. After this, a handout explaining the positive, negative and questioning form of "going to" will be given to the student. As the last part of this stage, teacher will ask the students "So, after the class, what are you going to do?" Students will try to answer by using the TL. Teacher will also ask some CCQ's and try to practice the pronunciation with the ss by using the positive, negative and questioning form.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

In this stage, ss will now have another listening in the same context and will try to practice the TL by trying to answer on some questions issued from the listening. Their task is to try to make the questioning form with some proposed words and to answer them. The task is to be done alone, but they will check their answers in pairs. The feedback will be given by the teacher.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

As the last task of this lesson, ss will have a writing exercise and will try to practice the TL. The task is consisting of writing their next summer's plan. After the writing, they will exchange their essays and read each other's summer plans.
