Description

This 45-minute online lesson is designed for pre-intermediate adult learners and focuses on functional language related to holidays. The primary goal is to help students find and understand information about holiday options, express their preferences, and explain their choices using simple, practical English. By the end of the lesson, students will be more confident using everyday English to talk about holidays, express likes and dislikes, and engage in simple conversations about travel plans.

Materials

Main Aims

  • To practice and revise functional language to talk about holidays.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide specific information listening practice using an audio about planning a holiday
  • To provide fluency speaking practice in planning a holiday and also explaing their choises

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will expose students to the picture and have a brainstorm. Prompt the question "What are they talking about", let´s say phrases that come to your mind. I will write down the sentences to check if they have previous vocabulary.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

1.Students will read the the questions (to give them the prupose of what they will be looking for in the audio) 2.The audio will be play two times and they will work in peers. 3.They need to answer the questions together (providing time to discuss their findings) 4.Feedback will be with the whole class. I will provide full answers if they do not provide the whole sentence written.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

1. They will choose in a google form (the purpose of the functional language) Providing clarification in meaning. 2. Feedback will be together and I will do CQs just to check if the tenses and meaning were understood. 3. Students will be exposed to form of 4 phrases. They will need to break the sentences to get the form (I will give examples and guide the activity). They will also create questions or answers using the same form when it is the case (Would, Wh questions) 4. Pronuntiation will be provided for me saying the whole example and they need to ask the question to a mater to get the answer and check both students pron and intonation.

Semi-Controlled Practice (8 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

In pairs, students will imagine they are planning a holiday together. They must ask each other questions (using “Where would you like to go?”, “Would you rather…?”) and discuss preferences. (Use one option of the Holidays provided) They must agree on: Destination Duration (days, weeks) Type of place (beach, city, countryside, quiet, exotic, etc.) Number of people traveling Hotel or self-catering Why they chose

Free Practice (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Students will join other pairs. (Join 2–3 pairs into small groups) (4–6 learners). Each pair presents their holiday plan to the others, using the functional language: “We’re going to…” “We chose this holiday because…” And decide: “Whose holiday would you most like to join?”, “Which holiday was most surprising/interesting?”

Conduct Feedback and DEC. (5 minutes) • Correct delayed error in speaking

I will monire though the BORS and check how are they using the F.language. I will write some sentences and provide delayed error correction.
