In this lesson students are going to work on their reading comprehension through reading a text about travelling. The lesson starts with a discussion about the different ways they traveled and which one was more enjoyable. This is followed by gist and detailed reading where students read about the way two women decided to travel and different places they visited. Finally there is some controlled practice in which students try to find details and a free practice via a final role-play speaking activity.

Lead-in (8-10 minutes) • To get the students familiar with the article they are going to read and pre-teaching some of the vocabulary.

The teacher shows a picture of the women who are written about in the article and also the picture of a map in which their route is clear and has the students to talk about it. The teacher helps students to discuss what is going on in the picture with their partner so as to reduce TTT. The students are supposed to make guess about the way they traveled, to discuss whether it was expensive or not, the problems they had, the different countries they visited, etc. Then the teacher asks each group to share their guesses with the class. The teacher writes some of the guesses on the board because they are going to read the first paragraph and think over their guesses..

Pre-reading (5-6 minutes) • To raise the curiosity of the students to know about the story

When the teacher put some of their guesses on the board, he asks them to read the first paragraph of the text. Then they are asked to read the first paragraph silently and make some stronger guesses.The teacher just monitors them to see if they are on the task and avoid intruding them. He even doesn't echo their answers, too. In the end he asks the WC to predict the story and just listen but doesn't reject their ideas.

While-reading (gist) (3-5 minutes) • To make students work on skimming

in this stage, the teacher gives them a task and asks them to read the text silently and find the answers. The criteria that are significant are reading silently and quickly. So, the teacher emphasizes on these two criteria and asks some ICQs to make sure they are following the task. After instruction the teacher has a cursory look on the students to know if they are on the task or not. Then he monitors them continuously to see if there is any student who is going to be intrusive to keep him down. Then after a limited time he asks them to share their answers with their partner. In the end, he nominates some of the students to give their answers.

While-reading (Scanning the text) (6-8 minutes) • To help students to increase the speed of reading by scanning

In this stage the students are given a HO in which there is a table they have to complete. The teacher asks them to read carefully and complete the table. They are given enough time to go through the details and find the answers. There is a possibility that some of the students interrupt the class while they are reading the text. So, the teacher monitors them carefully and keeps the learning environment quiet like library. Then after limited time they are asks to discuss their answers with their partners. In the end the teacher nominates them to tell answer in ball game..

post reading (3-5 minutes) • To discuss the way they chose for travelling and the other reasons.

The teacher asks them to discuss why they chose this way of travelling. Are they adventurous, crazy,.. ?. Then they are asked to get up and change their partner and discuss the way they travelled. The teacher just monitors them and takes note of any mistakes they make in using verbs. Then the teacher puts them on the board and in the end they look at the board and correct the mistakes.

Freer practice (5-7 minutes) • To use the verbs they have learnt form the text in their own real life

The students are asked to be in groups of three. They are supposed to write a paragraph about their last holiday using the verbs in the text. after a limited time they are asked to turn over their papers and tell their story to their partner. the teacher just monitors them and takes note of their errors. if there were enough time, the teacher would nominates two of the students to tell their story to the class. Then After all he writes their errors on the board and asks them to discuss the errors and correct them.
