Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice in a conversation in the context of sharing information.

Procedure

warmer lead-in (5-6 minutes) • To set the context

They will have a picture of a conversation of two people a journalist and a firefighter. to set the context i will ask them to talk in group or in pairs and to make the difference between this two sentences.

Clarification (10-11 minutes) • to provide context for the target language through some sentences from the previous reading.

I will try to elicit as much as possible the target language. I will try to give clear instruction before the exercise. I will make them focus on the tenses.

controlled practice of form (6-8 minutes) • To focus more on the grammatical rules and to give the students the chance to use it

They will have to work in pairs to match some direct speech sentences with some indirect speech.

Test 1 (7-9 minutes) • controlled practice of meaning

They will have another exercise to change direct speech to indirect speech alone. After i will to correct their answer in pairs or in group.

Free practice (10-12 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' use of language

I will give the students a copy of the worksheet . they will go through the items on the worksheet and elicit the questions that the students need to ask in order to do the activity, e.g. Did you do some sport or exercise yesterday? I will demonstrate the activity by writing the first item on the board and adding the name and more information. I will write the name in the appropriate column on the board and ask the follow up question e.g what sport or exercise did you do? example; somebody told me that they played badminton in the park yesterday
