Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in a Conversation in the context of Holiday

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-4 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will start the class by telling my students about the things that happened to me last weekend. Then I will ask them to tell about their weekend.

Highlighting (2-3 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

I will use some of my students' sentences and write them in correct past simple form on the board to draw their attention to the TL.

Clarification (10-12 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

I will draw a timeline on the board and I will ask my students to say if the sentences are about the past, present or future. (past) I will ask them if the actions are completed or they are continued? (completed) Can I mention the exact time they happened? (Yes). I will work on a table that shows some common irregular verbs and tell them that these verbs completely change in the past. I will let them know about correct pronunciation of some verbs like said and read. The correct pronunciation of verbs when they are added (ed) will be covered as well. /t/, /d/, /Id/.

Controlled Practice (10-12 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

The students are going to do task 1A on page 145 in the SB in 4 minutes individually. They will have 2 minutes to check their answers in pairs and then the task will be checked with the whole class.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

I will ask my students to work in groups of 4 and talk about their best holiday ever and mention the things they did then. Then will have the chance to say who they think had had the best holiday in each group.
