Description

In this lesson, students will practice the gist and detailed reading in the context of trade. The lesson starts with a discussion about trade. The reading is followed by the discussion about Constantinople as the center of trade and followed by writing a paragraph about it.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

1) PPP1 --I will encourage students to guess the word 'trade' 2) PPP2 ---What do you know about the world trade? When did people fırst start trading and why? --- You will find out soon.

Pre-Reading/Listening (5-7 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

PPP slide 3 --- pre-teach the vocabulary

While-Reading/Listening #1 (5-7 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

1) Give out the text and set the time (mention individual work) 2) PPP slide 4 --Answer the question 3) Check in pairs- FB

While-Reading/Listening #2 (17-20 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

1) PPP slıde 5 questions (İndividual work) 2) Pair check + Feedback

Post-Reading (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned
