Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

-I will put up 5 movie posters on the board and tell the students that I have been to one of these movies very recently and that I really liked it. I will ask them to guess which one and why, take FB with the whole class. - I will put students in pairs to discuss briefly which one they would like to see and why.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

-I will explain that all the teachers went to see different movies last night and that we wrote a quick review. -I will put the students in pairs to quickly skim the sentences and circle the happy face or the sad face depending on if the teachers liked or didn't like the movie. -Feedback will be taken with the whole class.

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

-I will ask the students to work in pairs and spend 4 minutes underlining the types of movies and circle the words that describe them. I will model using the first example of a comedy that is funny. -When they finish I will ask the stronger students to feedback to the whole class using the board. They will put the right names, genres and descriptions and to give the answers to the weaker students.

Controlled Practice (4-5 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

-Put the students in pair. - I will ask the students to think of examples of a specific movie genre we have discussed and talk about what makes them belong to that genre. -As they are speaking I will monitor them for the following: meaning, form and pronunciation to use for the further stage of clarification.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

I will put up the following form for the students tow work out themselves. The film______ is a ______genre movie. The descriptors for this type of movies are; ______ , ______ and ______. -One student from each group will come to the board and fill out the blanks for the movie they have discussed about. - I will check meaning with CCQs. - I will drill for pronunciation.

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

-The students will be given a short questionnaire that they must complete. -It will help them to find people with the same taste for movies. -They must also write down why they like/don't like this type of movies. -I will monitor in order to make further corrections in the feedback session. - Short FB session with the whole class.

Free Practice (5-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

-Students will be put in pairs to decide which movies the teachers should see next weekend. -- -They will have five minutes to come up with some recommendations for us - FB will be taken with the whole class.
