Main Aims

The main aim of this lesson is to enable students to develop their speaking skills in the context of "firsts". Talking about their own firsts and expressing how they felt.
Subsidiary Aims
-
To enable students to learn useful lexis, phrases and adjectives in order to express their firsts and how they felt about them.
Procedure (36-44 minutes)
Lead-in: 5 min Questions with the whole class: - What is something you remember doing for the first time? (give examples myself) Nominate 1 student. - How did you feel? - What other “firsts” can you think of? nominate 1 student. What first is this? How do you think that person feels? Nominate 1-3 students. - personalise asking them about their first that appears on the slide.
Content preparation: 7 min Google docs: Task 1: 1 min Task 2: 4 min - Feedback: 2 min They will be asked how many firsts do they remember in their lives. They will have to tick the ones they do. And then they will speak about only one first that they remember with their partners, I will give them possible topics. This will activate their knowledge and ideas about the content of the lesson and prepare them for the main speaking tasks.
Language preparation: 9 min Task 3: 6 min Pronunciation 1 min Feedback: 2 min I will introduce the useful vocabulary ( Phrases and adjectives) in sentences with pictures to give them context, then based on that they will answer the questions in the google forms document. They will learn the meaning of the useful language via guided discovery activities, inductively. I will monitor and help them if needed. They will aslo check meaning, form and pronunciation on google forms and drill with me both individually and chorally.
Speaking: 15 min 4. Main Speaking Task: Round 1: Tell your favorite “First” to your partner. 4 min Feedback 1 min Round 2: Tell the same or another “First” to another partner. 4 min Feedback 1 min Round 3: Tell the best “First” that your partner told you about. 4 min Feedback 1 min I will give them the instructions and the prompts in the google docs: Main Speaking Task: Round 1: Tell your favorite “First” to your partner. Round 2: Tell the same or another “First” to another partner. Round 3: Tell the best “First” that your partner told you about. Useful Phrases you can use (optional): I’ll never forget the first time I… I remember the first time I… I was excited / proud / embarrassed / nervous
I will monitor them when they speak and write down any mistakes they make to correct them in open class feedback. Also, I will provide feedback from the content of their speaking activities.
