Description

In this lesson students will practice speaking this lesson will be their second English lesson followed by a grammar lesson. Students know present simple tense and they will learn some useful expression all of which requires Present Simple to be used.

Materials

Abc reading hand out
Abc Dialogue hand out

Main Aims

  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in a dialogue

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide detailed listening / reading practice using a text about offering help

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Show students a picture of a full bus. Ask: Where do you think they are? ( In a bus) Do you take the bus? (yes/no) When the bus is crowded do you give your seat to anyone? (yes / no)

Exposure (4-5 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

Give students the reading/listening "Please take my seat". Give them two minutes to read. Give them another three minutes, ask them to answer the questions at the end. Feedback: Ask students to give their answers.

Useful Language (10-18 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

Play the recording and ask students to listen and underline the sentences that makes an offer. Write "offer" on one side of the board. Give the example sentence: Here- please take my seat. Ask students to take turns and write the sentences they find on board. Class Feedback: Once it is finished asked them if it is OK? If the answer is no let them correct or add another item. Give them a dialogue. Ask them to put it in the correct order. Give them 4-5 minutes and check the answers together. Write "answering offeres" on board. Give an example and ask students to say what else they have, put the answers on board. - Depending on the time students may be asked to practice reading the dialogue with a classmate- After this teacher gives feedback on pronunciation

Productive Task(s) (10-15 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

Put students in groups. Give students the hand out. Say choose a scene and plan a dialogue about offering help to someone. If needed give students the example hand out. Give students 5-6 minutes to work on their dialogue with their partner/s. Ask students to come out and act their dialogue to class. If the time allows ask students to change the roles and do another dialogue.

Feedback and Error Correction (4-5 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

Listen to students, write down their mistakes on board and ask the class to look at the board and check the mistakes.
