Description

in this lesson students will learn about present perfect and its usage in everyday speaking. We will use the American English file 1 for teaching the material.

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification of present perfect in the context of movies and films

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in a conversation in the context of asking about movies and TV shows

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

i ask them if they like watching movies or TV shows. i will ask them to say a short summary about they show they mentioned. Then i will tell them to open their SB and look at the first page. i ask them if they know any of the movies scenes that are shown in the book.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

i use present perfect questions to ask them if they have seen the movies mentioned in book and let them give their answers.

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

i ask them to look at the phrases on page 94 practice b. i ask them if they can guess the meaning.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

to begin with ill draw a graph to explain and clarify the timeline we use PP in. i explain how and where we use it. i then use visual tables to show them the form of the PP in positive, negative , and question form.i use CCQ questions to make sure they understood what we talked about so far.i use questions like: have you seen peppa pig ?has she watched that movie? have we finished our lesson?. Next, ill teach them the difference between regular and irregular verbs in PP.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

i ask them to do practice b page 94. we check answers. then i ask them to do practice c and check answers. i will be using ICQ and CCQs in this stage.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

i will ask them to ask each other about the things they have done last week/ month. OR i will ask them to ask each other about movies, TV shows, or books they have read before.
