Main Aims

  • To provide clarification and practice of Present modals of deduction: must, might, may, can't in the context of travel

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide gist listening practice using a text about holiday in the context of travel

Procedure

Lead-in for the Listening task (3-7 minutes) • Presenting marker sentences of present deduction modals

- T projects slide of places. - Ss try to guess where these places are - Ss support their assumption - Teacher get FB -Teacher won't give the answers

Listening Pre-Teach (5-10 minutes) • Eliminating blocking vocabulary for listening

- T sets the task - T gives handouts on on blocking vocabulary - Ss work in pairs to match the places with words -T quickly elicits the answers on the board

Listening (7-15 minutes) • Presenting grammar / marker sentences

- T introduces the characters and sets the scene for the listening - T play the recording - Ss do the task (they number the pictures in the order they hear them) - Ss check in pairs - T gets freed back with WC

Marker Sentences (present modals of deduction) (5-10 minutes) • Presenting the TL

- T puts the marker sentences on the board. - T gets FB on the meaning - T gets FB on the form( positive and negative)

Controlled Practice (5-10 minutes) • Practicing present modals of deduction

- T gives instructions. - T gives Ss HO - Ss complete the sentences. - Ss check in pairs/group
