Description

This 45-minute online lesson is designed for pre-intermediate students and focuses on developing their speaking skills, particularly in expressing opinions, agreeing and disagreeing politely, and explaining their choices in English. Conducted on a video conferencing platform such as Zoom, the lesson provides students with structured practice in using functional language that is useful for everyday conversations and discussions.

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide speaking fluency practice in the context of choosing a manager for a pop group

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversacions and debates in formal and informal contexts
  • To provide accuracy and fluency speaking practice in a conversation when choosing different options and persuade others

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

-Students will read a news (to introduce the theme) -They will do a brainstrom about the skills that a great manager need to have.

Exposure (8 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

-Students will read the information of 4 people that want to be the new manager of a Pop group. -They need to get the general idea and then answer a Google form and choose the character that matches to the details (reading for detail) - Feedback will be the whole class (to check answers and they have the information clear to forward have a criteria that will be shared)

Useful Language (8-10 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

- Students will listen twice to an audio and they will fill in the gap the correct answer (Phrases to agree/disagree, express an opinion and explain their answers will be written and theyr need to decide their purpose. Eg: What about... = Disagree) - Then, the teacher will explain the form of the phrases and the students need to create an example to check if they understood the meaning and the form. - Teacher clarifies the pron making emphasis in the punctuation (. or ,) for small pauses and then the rest of the speech. (Make them repeat how to give intonation to the phrases)

Productive Task(s) (15-20 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

- Students will have 3 minutes to create their own statemens (simple phrases) of the optiones of the managers. This will help them to have clear ideas when speaking and start persuading others. - Students give share their ideas and they will use the phrases they haven“t use to express disagree/agree and explaining other optiones.

Feedback and Error Correction (5 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

-Teacher will monitoring the whole speaking activity and have delayed correction of language (correct verbs and form of the phrases as their meaning or their purpose to the usem) - The whole class feeback.
