Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-2 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

In this stage I am going to ask the students if they have ever written an email to apply for a job? And if they did, what specific information they think we should include in our email.

Exposure (6-7 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

In this stage, Before diving into the email, I will clarify the meaning of a few words that might be new for the students (résumé / rehabilitation centre / enclose / qualified). Then the students are going to be asked a question (what job is he applying for) as a gist question. Moreover, I will ask the students to read the email in detail and ask them to choose between the given options in the email. Finally, I will check the answers with them and want them to explain their reasons and give them feedbacks on their answers.

Useful Language (10-11 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

In this stage, I will ask the students how many important parts in the cover email that they have just read can they spot, then I will divide the email into 9 main sections (1-Subject line / 2- Greeting / 3- Opening line / 4- Body / 5- Attachments / 6- Closing Line / 7- Sign-off (Formal closing) / 8- Your Full Name / 9- Your Contact Details (Optional)) and I will clarify the most common and relevant expressions, phrases, vocabularies and grammar (proper tenses to talk about our self) that they have to use in each part of the cover email. Moreover, I will again refer to what they have done in the reading section of the lesson to clarify the difference between formal and informal language in the email.

Productive Task(s) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

In this stage, the students are going to write a cover email about themselves and their experiences and abilities for their dream job using the layout, expressions and vocabularies that they have been taught.

In this stage, after students finished their writings, I will collect them and give each students a writing that their classmates wrote and want them to just write a quick summary of what was done well and what could have been better about the text that they have given. Finally, I will collect the writings and give write some feedbacks for students individually.
