To provide clarification of lesson topic covering meaning, form and pronunciation.

To provide controlled practice of the topic of lesson (business and trade) & free practice via communicative task(s) for learners to use language fluently.

To improve speaking fluency via pair/group work & DEC (delayed error correction).
Procedure (34-43 minutes)
Lead-in: Incite brief discussion with students -> "What do you know about Shanghai (China?)", will share YT video discussing "Shanghainese" language: https://youtu.be/EgOmJf87npg?si=PXnQM6xfWpbIgJb2
- Screenshare ‘Showpiece of China’ transcript & have Ss complete Gist Reading Google Form with question below (2 mins to complete): 1. Three ways Shanghai has changed since 1990 (multiple choice, having students select from four answers & choosing which way Shanghai has NOT changed). - Follow-up with Intensive Reading Google Form with questions on terminology from text (3-4 mins to complete): Vocabulary being highlighted: - political - (capitalist) economy - developer - investment - industrial - producer - manufacture(d) - environmental - polluted
Have students access ‘Showpiece of China’ transcript. Highlight terminology marked in blue for Ss review, these being (see language analysis sheet for further detail).
1. Matching Activity (Ss access slides) for Meaning (4-5 mins) a. Ss will complete matching activity using slides provided. b. To gauge understanding, Ss will either be asked CCQs or asked to provide some synonyms on the targeted vocabulary. *Any problems encountered with meaning will be handled according to solutions outlined in Language Analysis Sheet. 2. Ss Pair Work in breakout rooms for Form using Google Forms (5-6 mins) a. Ss will be placed in breakout rooms for 5 mins, working in pairs to complete Meaning: Speaking & Reading Section 6B: of workbook. *Any problems encountered with form will be handled according to solutions outlined in Language Analysis Sheet. 3. Pronunciation Review completed by Ss (4 mins) a. Focus on shifting of stress, use info on pg. 142 of workbook, have Ss guess stress of terms & mark for themselves (allow them access to slides!!)
CP Activity: Have Ss complete Controlled Practice Google Form activity adapted from 'TP#3 Controlled Practice Activity' with questions below (4 mins to complete): Target Vocabulary: political, (capitalist) economy, developer, investment, industrial, producer, manufactured, environmental, polluted
FP Activity: 1. Have Ss write sentences about how things have changed in your country in the last five years (3-4 mins, let students access link to Figjam in slides). Make sure Ss use target vocabulary while drafting sentences: Target Vocabulary: political, (capitalist) economy, developer, investment, industrial, producer, manufactured, environmental, polluted 2. Have Ss Work in groups & tell each other their sentences (4-5 mins, in breakout rooms). If you're from the same country, do you agree? If you're from different countries, how many of your sentences are similar? 3. Conduct feedback using DEC (2 mins)
