Description

In this class Students will learn how to Describe and sequence a story by looking at pictures. Students will become familiar with present continuous, present simple and present perfect while also learning key words related to keeping fit.

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in a Sequencing, Narrative and description in the context of keeping fit
  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in students to tell story in the pictures in the context of get fit

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide practice of Present simple, continuous and perfect in the context of gettig fit

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-4 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Ask Ss: "Can to much exercise be dangerous?" -Elicit words - Expect to hear "Hurt yourself" "injure yourself"

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

Give Ss reading task where they will read the funny anecdote. "You will now read this short anecdote about someones experience about going to the gym" -Let Ss read themselves "What did you understand from the story?" - Elicit to see if Ss have understood the story - Go through main points of the story and explain parts where they have not understood

Useful Language (6-8 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

Ask Students what they do to keep fit: "What do you do to keep fit" - Elicit some answers - Write answers on the bored - Answers to expect: "Go to the gym","Exercise" , "play sport" , "Exercise Machines" "running on the treadmill", "using dumbbells - Get Ss to think about how and what to do to keep fit CCQ: Do we have to go to the gym to keep fit? -no, we can exercise anywhere - we play sports Can we use exercise machines outside of the gym yes they can be found in the gym but also in the parks and at your home

Productive Task(s) (25-35 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

Explain to Ss about activity they will do. - Show back of the pictures up to the class and tell them "This is a story about people trying to keep fit" - CCQ to see if Ss have understood: What is the story about? Explain that this will be a group work activity and split them up "This will be a group work activity" - "Each group member will have 1 or more pictures ( depending on amount of Ss) from the story - Give pictures to Ss individually - Tell Ss "before we start I would like you to think about how you will explain the picture to your group, take notes on key words you should say- but only important words" - Help Ss while they take notes and note down what Ss ask about - List some words Ss ask about and list words and check the meaning with Ss ( Vocabulary) : Dumbell, treadmill, pull up, bench press - Tell Ss to describe there pictures to the group "Now with your notes and the key words, describe the pictures to your group" - go around and help where necessary

Feedback and Error Correction (4-6 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

When groups have found there story and decided the correct sequence allow them to look at all the pictures and arrange them into correct sequence THEY WOULD HAVE MADE A STORY WITHOUT LOOKING AT THE PICTURE AND NOW WILL SEE HOW ACCURATE THEY ARE BY SEEING ALL OF THEM AND ARRANGING THEM
