Procedure (79-90 minutes)
Prompt (on board or slide): What do you do in your first week in a new place? What was your first experience with public transport, shopping, or housing in a new place? Students share short answers in pairs using past verbs (met, had, got lost, bought).
Activity: Timeline Build Instructions: Each student imagines a move to a new country (or recalls a real one). They write down 4 events from their first few days. Then they put them in order on a timeline Use at least 2 irregular past verbs and 2 connectors Share with a partner and ask 1–2 follow-up questions Encourage comparison between imagined and real situations. Cultural Firsts Discussion In groups (3–4 students): Discuss your first or imagined experiences abroad, using these prompts: First cultural misunderstanding First time shopping First time talking to a stranger First good or bad surprise Each student shares at least one story using: 2 irregular past verbs 1 sequencing connector Group summarizes one highlight from the discussion.
Instructor writes 3 student-produced sentences (anonymously) on the board. Class corrects errors (if any) and discusses: Which verbs were used well? Could you add a connector or time phrase?
