Procedure (52-60 minutes)
Instructions: On the board: a cluttered clinic image (or describe it). Prompt: What do you see? How many items or animals are there? Use: There is / There are / There was / There were Collect sample responses and board correct ones: There were a few syringes on the table There wasn’t much space in the waiting area
First Listening Students take Cornell Notes: Left: new verbs, quantifiers Right: what happened and in what order Bottom: a short summary using there was / there were Second Listening Students focus on verb tense and quantity phrases (a few, a little, many, much).
Instructions: Students receive a series of images They write 3 full sentences: One using there was / there were One with a quantifier One with an irregular past verb Then, compare with a partner.
Instructor boards 3 verb phrases and 2 quantity phrases from student notes. Class reviews correct form and pronunciation. From your Cornell Notes, choose 3 irregular past verbs and write one sentence for each.
