Description

In this lesson the students are going to listen to Simon and Claire talking about their first day at work.

Main Aims

  • To provide detailed listening practice using an audio about different experiences at work

Subsidiary Aims

  • To privide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of having a weird problem on your first day in a new job or class.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (4-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

The students will be asked if they have ever experienced an awkward situation in their life. how do they deal with the situation?

Pre-Reading/Listening (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

The students will be taught about the meaning of the following words used in the audio. Then they will be asked to match the words with the correct definition. They will check their answers in pairs and then with the whole class. Expect- Make an impression- Make a decision- Director- Training

While-Reading/Listening #1 (6-8 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

The students will listen to the audio and try to answer the following questions: What problem did Simon and Claire have at work? What advice would you give them to help them get rid of their problem?

While-Reading/Listening #2 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

The students will be asked to read the questions in page 55, part b then the audio will be played again. The students need to answer the questions with S (Simon) C (Claire) B (Both). They will be given 2 minutes to check their answers in pairs then the answers will be checked with the whole class

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

The students will be asked to talk to each other in groups of 3 about the following question: What has been your most memorable experience at work so far? How do you usually handle stress or pressure in your job?
