Description

İn the context of the small talk the lesson will be focused on listening to the small talks and eliciting the functional language. Speaking freer exercise using the functional language in a small talk will end up the lesson.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

PPP slide with pictures of people engaged in the small talk Where are they? What are they doing? --- elicit conversation, talk ---show small after hearing the talk WB '' A small talk'' as a context

While-Reading/Listening #1 (7-10 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

1 İnstructions: Now lets listen and match 4 small talks with 4 pictures. Alone? 2 Check in pairs 3 Pair check 4 FB --- ask randomly & stick the numbers on the WB as an answer key

While-Reading/Listening #2 (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

1. İnstructions: Lets listen and circle the correct answer Alone or in pairs? Alone 2. Play the track 3. Pair check 4 FB - random selection & telling the answer Justifications??

Functional Language Analysis (12-15 minutes) • show Ss the way to express their interest in the conversations

1. Grouping in 4 for brainstorming 2. İnstructions: Firstly choose the correct response from the box above. After this think about the questions İ have written down there. Show on PPP slide Pay attention to the #2 İCQs: What will you do firstly? After that? Alone or in groups? 3. Monitor and check who has got it right. 4. .Get FB for the first question. Elicit the functional language ----- WB Marker sentence ''I'm from Romania''--------? ---------------------------?'' Meaning: Do they enjoy talking? Are they interested? -Yes Should we answer the first question? Why do we need it?-- elicit to show interest Form Elicit after clarifying the meaning and using gestures and mimics to elicit shortened question and follow- up questions Pronunciation: Did you act it out? Did you raise or lower your voice? up or down? elicit ''the intonation goes up to show interest'' ----drill the intonation as a class

Speaking (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to practice the small talk and the functional language

1. Look at the 2nd picture --PPP slides 2. İmagine you are in the plane and you are returning back to Turkey. But your neighbour is English. Have a small talk and show your interest in responses. 3. Monitor the freer activity.
