Materials

Main Aims

  • By the end of the lesson, students will be able to offer and respond to reassurance in conversations about animal health or emergencies.

Subsidiary Aims

  • Students will be able to use the phrase "at least" to point out the positive side of a difficult veterinary situation.

Procedure

Lead-in (8-10 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T. projects some sentences and asks Ss. to complete them as a group (Evolve 3 Digital Workbook 4.3)

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide a model of the task and highlight useful words and phrases

T. Chooses some Ss. to roleplay a conversation on the spot. (Evolve 3 Digital Workbook 4.3)

Task (15-20 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

T. gives Ss. some prompts related to veterinary scenarios. T. Put Ss into pairs. Gives them five minutes to prepare their roles for conversation A and make notes. Ss role-play their conversations. T. Circulates and helps with any language questions. Then, asks Ss about the outcome of their conversations. Ss prepare and role play conversation B.

Language Analysis (15-20 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the task language

T. asks each pair to role play their conversation and focuses on form and meaning.
