Main Aims

  • To provide scan reading practice using a text about Family (likes) in the context of Food and drink
  • To provide clarification and practice of food and drink / expressing likes in the context of food

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide gist and specific information listening practice using a text about Family in the context of food and drink


Food Presentation (5-10 minutes) • Quick exposure of food names (setting the )context

- Photo of foods projected - Students name the foods - T models the pronunciation of the new words

Expressing Likes (5-10 minutes) • Students will learn to use the verb like and the quantifier / intensifier A LOT

- food image on board - T writes model sentences - T pronounces the sentences - Ss repeat after the T - Ss practice the target language

Nick and Fiona (5-10 minutes) • Listening for Gist

- Nick and Fiona are introduces - Ss listen to Fiona - Ss individually choose the correct answer - Ss compare answers in pairs - T get feedback / gives them the answers

The Four (Likes) (5-10 minutes) • Reading for Gist

- Words are pre-taught (a cup of coffee, a litre, ice-cream - biscuits - a vegetarian) - Ss read about Zoe, Ed, Mei and Ben - They complete the answers - The check/compare in pairs - T gets feed backs / gives them the answers

Listening to the FOur (5-10 minutes) • Listening for Gist

About Themselves (5-10 minutes) • Students produce target language to write about themselves

- T sets the tasks instructions - T ICQs - Ss write about six sentences about themselves

They Speak about Themselves (1-5 minutes) • Free production of TL

- Ss tell each other about the food they like most by reading to each other the six sentences they have written
