Letter P phonics lesson 2
A1 - grade 2 level

Description

The ss will consolidate their learning of the "p" sound and of the words pig, pink, pants, peach and pear, as well as being able to read and partially wirte these words along with sentences using them.

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification and practice of some words beginning in "p" in the context of the Pink Pig story
  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in a pronunciation in the context of the Pink Pig story

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide detailed reading practice using a text about a pink pig in the context of the Pink Pig story

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (7-9 minutes) • To practice greetings, engage students and prepare for lesson TL

The T does regular greetings with the WC and then with two specific ss. Then the WC reviews the letter phonics up to the letter P. The T then elicits words using the P sound from the previous lesson. He then plays the Storybots video twice

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

The T has different Ss' say each of the sentences from the story.

Highlighting and clarfication (8-11 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

All but class 3 ( and 1 a little bit) DIDN'T get the chance to play the game intended for the first lesson so it will be played again. First however the teacher goes over the flashcards and asks 1 CCQ for each. The game is then played with 3 to 5 duos.

Semi-Controlled Practice (12-15 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

This lesson really hinges on the WS which will be challenging for some and is quite substantial. It is important that the T demonstrates well every part of the WS first. Plenty of time should also be allowed for the doing of the WS as well.

Extra • Consolidate and review

The classes which havent seen Sesame Street (2,4,5) can watch it. The bounce Patrol video could be played before the WS segment if too much time remains. Hangman could also be played at the end or before.
