Description

In this lesson, students will listen to a conversation between two neighbors (Rosemary and Iris)discussing a heated argument they overheard between a couple( Jack and Emma).

Materials

Main Aims

  • To practice inferencing by evaluating whether Rosemarys gossip accurately reflects the truth about Jack and Emma.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice through role- plays and debates about gossip ethics.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-4 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

So here i will show some photos of people gossiping and then i will ask the students in pairs about their ideas about it and they will be given 2 minutes to work in pairs and to tell me about their opinions.

Pre-Listening (3-4 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Then i will teach some new vocabularies like(awful, gossip, argument, overhearing, strange, darling and accident) i will teach the students about their meanings and providing some examples from the listening and i will show them some photos from ai.

While-Listening #1 (5-6 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

Then the students will listen to a audio and then after that i will ask them questions like Who are Jack and Emma? What has happened to them? then i will give them 2 minutes time to do it in pairs answer the multiple choice questions together then after that i will play the same audio again then we will answer the questions together.

While-Listening #2 (3-4 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

Then after that the students will listen to the next audio and then i will ask some questions like Was Rosemary right about everything and some other more.

Post-Listening (2-3 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Then i will ask the students if they gossip about anything in pairs and also to give their opinions about the listening.
